Ryan to sign private school tuition tax credit bill
Gov George Ryan planned to sign McCarthy led legislation creating a state income tax credit for parents of private school students. Opponents from IEA and IFT warn the subsidy could drain public school funds, while supporters peg annual cost around 70 to 70 million. The plan limits credit to 500 per family with 2 250 in education expenses and phases in at 25 cents per dollar after the first 250 to a 2 000 cap.
