Richton Park to negotiate pool purchase

The Richton Park Village Board voted to direct the village manager to begin negotiations for the possible purchase or lease of the Lakewood pool. Village Attorney Peter Coblentz said the plan could include lease, purchase, or operating agreements to keep the pool open, which faces closure after 25 years. A meeting with pool owner George Arquilla is planned for next week after his return from abroad, with the Lakewood Homeowners Association seeking village ownership and a petition signed by 220 residents.

Postal carrier found guilty of abusing 7 year old girl

A Will County judge convicted former Park Forest mail carrier Leslie Tucker 61 of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for fondling a 7 year old on his postal route on August 11 The judge acquitted him of predatory sexual assault citing conflicting trial testimony He faces 3 to 7 years on each count and remains in jail on a 1 million bond while prosecutors call it a significant step against sexual assault by a public worker.

Court rules village followed federal law in housing case

The US Court ruled Richton Park did not violate the Fair Housing Act by facilitating a developer’s protest. Village Attorney John Murphey confirmed the March ruling that the village did not discriminate against the disabled by rejecting a proposal.
