May 2 through May 8 marks Be Kind to Animals Week with urging from AVMA and AAHA. Local groups including South Suburban Humane Society Chicago Heights PAWS Tinley Park and Animal Welfare League Chicago Ridge host events with live pet programs, open houses and charity drives. Aspiring forecasters and weather enthusiasts can take METEO 150 Introduction to Meteorology at Prairie State College. The three credit class covers atmosphere, climate change, severe weather, forecasting, and field trips to a TV studio and National Weather Service stations. Meets Mondays and Wednesdays 7 to 9 45 p.m. June 14 through August 6.
