Metra Nears Lease Deal To Take Over NS Line
Metra negotiates a long term lease with Norfolk Southern for the line from 75th Street in Chicago to Manhattan. Metra would operate trains with its own crews and maintain tracks, adding rush hour and mid day service toward Manhattan. CMAQ funds fund track and signal upgrades to speed service as four weekday rush trains currently run on the NS line serving Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Worth, Palos Park and Orland Park.
