Prairie State College trustees grappled with looming state funding cuts as IBHE proposed 1980 aid of 2,191,907, a 7.96 percent rise over 1979, while Gov. Thompson’s plan would trim to 2,128,126, a 4.82 percent increase. Treasurer Troutman warned this 62-cent credit hour drop and reduced enrollment jeopardize operations, with summer scholarships also at risk. The board approved energy saving measures and changes in staffing and construction, including a summer four day week and a new technical wing due June, while bidding for steel work and window retrofits continued.
District 159 board announced a March 29 public informational meeting at Sieden Prairie School at 8 p.m. to discuss future growth projections and possible building options. The board seeks community input before a potential referendum and aims to guide decisions with citizen input.
Glenridge-Cricket Hill Home Owners Association invites Matteson residents to Meet the Candidates Night at 7 30 p m on Wednesday at Sieden Prairie School 725 Notre Dame Matteson Six candidates for three trustee posts and one village clerk will answer audience questions to help voters cast an informed ballot in the April 17 Matteson village election an association spokesman said.
Prairie Federal Savings proposes a two-building, 70 foot high complex at Route 30 and Cicero avenue adjacent to Lincoln Mall in Matteson. The plan calls for six-story towers with reflective glass and limestone exteriors, a landscaped courtyard, and ground level bank offices with leasing to follow. Daverman Associates presented the plans to the Matteson plan commission which praised the design. The first building would house a large branch and corporate offices in Chicago Heights, with substantial leasing needed before the second building proceeds. Final review set for March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in village hall.
Lake Matteson Estates plan commission approved the layout for over 200 deluxe homes as village boards consider land grants and municipal park needs. The dispute centers on lake access, land dedication, and ensuring city services without yielding land to the village.
A Piper Cherokee crash near Governors Highway Park Forest South killed Marty Goode 35 and his son Paul 15. Cadets Jerry Marian 14 and Prahlu Satsechi 15 were seriously injured, all passengers aboard the elder Goode's aircraft that took off from Haed-Uler field.
