Park Forest Prairie proposes new homes development plan

Park Woods estates near Park Forest and Steger are outlined by Ronald Reichert and Reichert Builders with Prairie Development. The proposal calls for 212 single family lots on 85 acres, adding about 800 residents. Homes priced from 80 000 to 100 000 plus lot costs 21 000 to 24 900, with annexation and school district changes discussed for Crete Monee and Bloom Trail areas.

Bond Sale for New Complex Wins Low Bid

Rich Township High School District 22 Board of Education accepted Bank of Park Forest's 5.577 percent bid on 300000 in building bonds, net cost 75300, over First National Bank of Chicago Heights at 5.60189 percent net 75650.01. Proceeds fund parking lot at South campus and industrial arts complex at East campus, with completion planned this summer. Tax rate expected to fall due to valuation rise and lower debt service. Board also approved early retirement for Joe DeMatio, 27 years service, to serve as district consultant for 40 days yearly on curriculum, repairs, and maintenance. A resolution of appreciation was adopted.

Old ICG commuter cars finally pulled from service after 53 years

H G Moon Mullins told trustees that the old single level ICG commuter cars are completely removed from revenue service and no longer operable. The transit district is receiving 36 new Bombardier Highliners, with 18 in service and the rest to lengthen rush hour trains. A May ceremony for the Bombardier order is planned, with displays of the old cars possibly on station grounds.

Richton Park to hold hearing on $58,000 revenue sharing funds

Richton Park trustees set a Monday 8 p.m. hearing on 1979 80 federal revenue sharing funds totaling 58000. Distribution favors public safety 52 percent parks 31 recreation 16 and Aunt Martha's 1 percent.

Empty chairs mark Richton Park block grant hearing

Richton Park plan commission held a public hearing on CDBG funds but only four attendees arrived. Six commissioners and the village planner waited about 30 minutes before adjourning. Petty Pettigrew staff found 46 buildings with deterioration, 38 minor, seven major, one structurally substandard, while surveys cover foundation, settlement, exterior walls, land use, traffic, business district study, and facilities.

District 162 boards reclassify seven principals for five schools

The district opts to reclassify seven administrators rather than reassign them as teachers as two schools Richton Square and Oakwood close due to dwindling enrollment. Principal D Amelio remains without a school. The board mulls Huth leadership changes and sets tighter campus lunch rules starting September.

Matteson Board approves Oakwood lease study and plan

Matteson village trustees directed attorney Joseph Perozzi to study a District 162 drawn Oakwood school lease effective July 15 with first option to buy if the district sells. The plan includes village obligations of operations, alterations, and about $18,750 yearly rent. District 162 may reclaim the building with 12 months notice and must return it in better condition.
