U S Rep Mel Reynolds captured a primary victory over opponents William Shaw and Allan Streeter with 48 435 votes in Chicago and Cook County. Shaw had 22 587 and Streeter 15 401. Reynolds credited his record and carried key wards amid strong support from Savage supporters.

Mayor Welch seeks broader inducement policy for the 150 acre Cicero Avenue district amid a competitive Cook County tax environment.
Ifs and toils aside Wennlund routed challengers in the 38th Illinois House Republican primary. He will face Democrat Lois Mayer of Mokena in November a charged contest. Victoria Prainito of Richton Park trails after a late-night loss and plans to regroup. Wennlund indicated a quick nap before a sprint to Springfield.
