Cook County State's Attorney Office and developer James Himmel of Flossmoor reached an injunction to stop work on three single family homes along Butterfield Creek in unincorporated Matteson. The agreement, prompted by flood concerns, bars further site activity until permits from Cook County Building and Zoning and the Illinois Department of Transportation Water Resources are secured. Suzanne Kollier said the office will enforce the order with contractor Gene Eggert under the agreement.
Gov. Jim Edgar moved the third airport study forward by inviting leaders to form a Policy Advisory Committee on the Peotone site. Richton Park Mayor Rudolph Banov ich, SSMMA president, is likely the association’s pick, with invites extended to Chicago, East Hazel Crest, and five neighboring villages. The panel will include state, county, and local officials and aviation interests.
The federal trial of Chicago Heights Deputy Police Chief Sam Mangialardi opened with U.S. Attorney John Gallo portraying him as selling his oath to a major drug dealer. Charged in a 16 count indictment with bribes, kickbacks, money laundering, and witness intimidation, Mangialardi is described as a veteran officer facing serious corruption allegations.
