Students from History in the making program at School District 162 hosted a dedication ceremony at Oakwood Park for the Matteson Historical Society. Sixth grader David Ritter read the bell dedication as attendees gathered for the celebration.
Richton Village trustees approved a 1.05 million dollar bond to fund infrastructure at the Richton Industrial Park. Bernardi Securities offered the lowest rate at 6.2 percent while Mesirow Financial and M.B. Vick quoted 6.5 and 6.25 percent respectively. Funds will build roads sewers and water with incremental property tax revenue to repay the issuance. residents will not see tax increases. The village recently earned a Baa rating reflecting solid prospects but slower housing value growth.
Richton Park Village Board approves Gregg Spathis to fill a vacancy left by William Pugh. The 5-1 vote, with Trustee Benjamin Hughes opposing, assigns Spathis a term ending April 1996. Spathis, president of the Richton Park Youth Baseball Association, has lived in Richton Park four years and owns a Lakewood subdivision home with wife Jean and two children.
Paul Hanlon admitted to a Cook County judge that he will not cooperate with a psychiatric evaluation to determine his fitness to stand trial for the March 1 slaying of his mother and two others. The judge ordered records and transcripts turned over to the appointed psychiatrist despite Hanlon's claim of noncooperation.
