Lake George vision sketches a thriving lakefront system

An aquatics ecologist summarized a near three year study of Richton Park's man made Lake George. Residents at an open house heard about erosion sediment buildup algae and excessive carp reducing oxygen. Depth has fallen from 12 13 feet to about 7 6 inches to 4 4 inches on average. Dredging options cost and potential resurgence of sediment were discussed. Conservation measures to curb soil inflow were suggested but risks remain if soils continue to creep in at about 1.3 inches per year.

Fire truck collision injures woman at junction

A Matteson fire truck not on an emergency call struck a car at the intersection of U.S. Route 30 and Governors Highway Thursday morning. Tina L. Jefferson, 18, of Park Forest, was treated at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center and released the same day. Driver Joseph Plingston, 32, was uninjured. The crash is under administrative review by the Matteson Fire Department.

Sex offender notification law expands public access

Illinois police chiefs briefed on a new state law that requires offenders convicted of molesting children to register within 30 days of release or probation and to have their names shared with schools, day cares, and DCFS. Departments must log details, verify identity, and monitor offenders for up to a decade, with notifications extending across towns if they move.

Crete Township Man Pleads Innocent in Fatal Hit and Run

Devon, 42, of Burrville Road, Burrville, pleaded innocent to two counts of obstruction of justice and four counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death in a Will County Circuit Court. Judge Rodney Lechnar set a trial for August 5 after a Friday plea in place of the previously scheduled July 11 preliminary hearing.
