Teens push for local skate park amid space and cost hurdles
Flossmoor and Homewood teens say skateboarding is a lifestyle not a sport and want a nearby public park. They name vacant Hines Lumber and the old Army Reserve base on 187th Street as possible sites while noting the district does not own the land. They cite enforcement in downtown areas, neighbor complaints over driveways ramps, and the lack of near facilities beyond New Lenox’s Drop In Skateboard Park. Recreation officials and park districts discuss design, cost, maintenance, safety, and insurance for such a park.
