New substitute pay scales set from 1989 90 with 44 to 75 per day. Four new staff hires and two classroom teacher transfers approved.
Defense lawyers for Albert Tocco filed motions in U S District Court Chicago to dismiss racketeering counts tied to extortion allegations against him and to suppress statements made to FBI agents during his Greek extradition. Panice, who operated the Show Club Lounge, says he paid Tocco but rejects that payments were extortion or threats. The 48 count indictment links Tocco to illegal chop shops gambling and prostitution schemes in the Southern Suburbs and Northwest Indiana.
