Tragedy hits church beach trip drowning of 8 year old
Daniel Simpson of Sauk Village drowned at West Beach Indiana Dunes after waves up to three feet. First Baptist Church of Hammond group of 21 children faced delayed lifeguard response and rangers coordinated a 200 foot water search. Simpson received mouth to mouth resuscitation and CPR before pronouncement at Gary Methodist Hospital. Group may cancel future trips.
