NASCAR Track Plans Face Planing Hurdles And Opposition

Track raceway events boosted sales and hotel taxes across Will County and the Southwest Suburbs with a 30 to 40 mile radius seeing economic gains. Backers proposed a DuPage County Airport site but that failed and Plano opposition over traffic and noise emerged. Officials from Route 66 Raceway and Motorsports Alliance talk of a joint effort while Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Ken Ungar said talks with Plano continue. A 75 000 seat track could expand to 150 000 and host three major races yearly including Winston Cup IndyCar style and Craftsman Truck Series events as an economic study argues for substantial impact.
