Three south suburban villages Richton Park University Park and Monee plan to oppose Frankfort s bid to extend its Facility Planning Area and take control of sewer and water services south of Steger Road west of Harlem Avenue toward Route 45 The move could curb future growth by neighboring municipalities and has sparked accusations that Frankfort is attempting to annex adjacent land through utility jurisdiction disputes.

Forum works to heal racism at Homewood Library
Public employees and municipal leaders from Homewood Flossmoor Richton Park and nearby libraries attend a four day Healing Racism workshop at Homewood Public Library. Leaders stress institutional racism and community building while topics include oppression genetic similarities and listening skills. The program is led by Rita Starr and continues January 27 28 with participants from several districts and villages.

Matteson greets village's first female patrol officer
Matteson Village Board welcomed Michelle Geier as the first woman to complete basic and field training for the Matteson Police Department, joining in October 1998. She underwent exams, completed 10 weeks at Triton College and 15 weeks of field training. Also sworn in was Robert Brown, formerly of Richton Park, on January 11.
