Three south suburban villages Richton Park University Park and Monee plan to oppose Frankfort s bid to extend its Facility Planning Area and take control of sewer and water services south of Steger Road west of Harlem Avenue toward Route 45 The move could curb future growth by neighboring municipalities and has sparked accusations that Frankfort is attempting to annex adjacent land through utility jurisdiction disputes.

Public employees and municipal leaders from Homewood Flossmoor Richton Park and nearby libraries attend a four day Healing Racism workshop at Homewood Public Library. Leaders stress institutional racism and community building while topics include oppression genetic similarities and listening skills. Matteson Village Board welcomed Michelle Geier as the first woman to complete basic and field training for the Matteson Police Department, joining in October 1998.
