Attorney in infant custody case resigns amid dispute

In Will County, Assistant State's Attorney Judi DeVriendt resigned after an agreement settled her misconduct suit against State's Attorney James Glasgow. Back pay of 4851 dollars and expunging the dismissal from her file were part of the deal. DeVriendt claimed Glasgow violated the union contract by attempting to fire her, while Glasgow did not comment. The case centers on DeVriendt directing deputies to take a seven month old infant from the child's lawful parents, Joshua Morrell, who was later returned after court orders and paternity testing. Howell, stationed in South Carolina, claimed paternity and sought a custody agreement with Morrell.

Some trustees criticize reliance on isolated breaks while urging statewide tax law reform. Zee One must repay funds if the agreement ends early, and a verbal promise by opponents is questioned.
