Long career of George Sangmeister spans law, justice, and politics
After John Marshall Law School, George Sangmeister became an early Will County justice of the peace and later a long serving U S representative and state lawmaker. He recalls key votes from combat to gambling policy, supports determinate sentences, and notes Will County’s separate circuit. He opposed NAFTA while backing GATT and cherishes Will County’s executive government move.

U.S. Representative George Sangmeister of Mokena retires after 30 years, saying he could have won a fourth term. His departure clears the way for state Rep.
