Dan Wessel led Cricket Hill residents in presenting a rust colored water sample to Matteson village trustees. Trustee Stricker noted high iron content and 53 grain hardness in the Cricket Hill well while the board authorized an outside examination and report for the January 2 meeting. The panel also approved a new village code administrator appointment for Thomas R. Sloat, replacing William Owler, with interim duties by John Schury. Other actions included tax abatements, a sales tax ordinance, a traffic agreement for Marketplace Plaza, a fire lane parking ban, and New Year’s Eve extended tavern hours. September sales tax receipts reached 118 457.51, up 19 percent from last year.
The date for the public hearing on the Matteson 216th and Main street improvement project is January 17 at 7 30 p m in Matteson village hall. An error in The Star listed January 1 due to an electronic mistake.
Richton Park village board approved the final plat for a Lakewood Manor resubdivision to allow Jackman Construction to build four six flat apartment buildings on Thomas Drive south of Sauk Trail next to the bowling alley. The plan commission previously approved. A public hearing on annexing a one acre Cook County parcel on the Rich South High School site is set for January 8 to address zoning and police protection concerns.
Matteson village hall offices close on Saturday and December 30 for the holiday week. During December and January they stay open on Wednesday evenings until 6 o'clock, adjusting the standard schedule to serve residents.
District 162 will defer its boundary decision until January after a Tuesday night board meeting focused on attendance area issues. Residents questioned the advisory committee report proposing bussing Olympia Fields east side students to Park Forest, while west side Arcadia busing was debated amid staff input and district finances.
