Across Frankfort and Lockport, programs at Camp Manitoqua and Shady Oaks provide recreation for severely disabled children and adults, helping caregivers integrate leisure into limited routines.

First day of school at Rich East ushers freshmen in

Rich Township High School District 227 reported an excellent D1 first day with shortened hours to ease freshmen into high school life. At Rich East Park Forest freshmen met teachers and toured classes at 8 20 a m with an assembly by Principal Prentiss Lea. Upperclassmen started at 11 a m. Lea praised the new schedule as effective. Rich South also had a shortened day and Principal Tom Donausky noted strong enthusiasm from teachers and students.

Illinois Increases School Zone Fines For Safety Lights

Gov. Ryan signed SB 737 raising speeding fines in school zones from 150 to 200 dollars starting January. The extra 50 dollars funds flashing lights at school intersections, with Matteson District 162 receiving 25 dollars for its light program, and shares split between elementary districts and Rich Township High School District 227.

Matteson residency rule to stay

A group of 25 residents urged Matteson to maintain the residency requirement for police, firefighters, and public works staff at a Village Board meeting. Officials said there are no immediate plans to change the ordinance, which dates to April 1994 and covers sworn police, firefighters paramedics, and certain public works personnel hired since then.
