The Richton Park Village Board officially owns the Lakewood pool after approving an ordinance donating the facility by Coronado Construction's George Arquilla. The move follows prior agreement to donate and aims to keep the pool open for the season while inspections and repairs are planned.
The Richton Park Village Board renamed its scholarship program the Bill Fleming Memorial Scholarship. Named for William J. D. Fleming, founder of the annual President's Golf Outing, the drive funds college awards for residents under Parks and Recreation. 1998 recipients Kathryn Williams and Daniel Kelly, 1999 winners Allison Leech and Christopher Johnston. Leech to study hospitality at Michigan State University. Fleming chaired the golf outing and served on the zoning board of appeals.
District 227 administrators from Rich Central Rich East and Rich South presented safety plans to the Board of Education. Extra police liaisons will monitor campuses as cameras and electronic locks are installed district wide. Rich South will study a possible closed lunch campus next year and tighten door security with continuous front entrance monitoring. Administrators stress fair consistent discipline and building trust with students to support a safer environment.
Matteson Village Board renews membership in the Chicago Southland Alliance amid a 3-3 vote split. President Mark Stricker breaks the tie over a $15,500 fee, with trustees Joseph Vincent and Emmanuel Imoukhuede criticizing past investment as unguaranteed and wasted.
PSC trustees may vote this evening on a one year contract for Virginia Burghardt as director of development at the Chicago Heights campus. The issue, tabled at the Aug. 16 meeting, follows a foundation backed selection and potential conflict amid local politics and Burghardt’s recent job history.
