Delayed I-355 Toll Road Blocks Forest Preserve Cleanup
The Forest Preserve District of Will County has delayed cleaning a Keepataw Forest Preserve dump due to the stalled I-355 extension from Bolingbrook to near New Lenox. An EPA order since 1994 remains unmet as $700,000 in bonds sit unused while debris including tires drums and lead paint hazards remain. A planned access road funded by tollway authorities would ease cleanup but was never built after a 1997 federal pause.
