Teachers use Canal to spark local history lessons
Teachers in the LaSalle area took part in a summer workshop led by Karla Young-Giles of the Canal Corridor Association to learn engaging ways to teach Illinois and Michigan Canal history. The aim is to connect local sites from Chicago to LaSalle-Peru with larger national events so students see relevance in geography and social studies.

Judge Sheila Murphy to join Justice Department Office of Justice Programs
Cook County Circuit Court judge Sheila M. Murphy announced she will retire effective Sept 1 to join the U S Justice Department. She will help implement drug and domestic violence courts nationwide and teach judges and lawyers how to set up these courtrooms. Murphy started a domestic violence court at the Markham courthouse in October 1993 and leads it with Judge Richard L. Samuels.
