Tragic St Lawrence Bridge Collapse Kills Eighteen
Ninety workers were on the New York and Ottawa railroad bridge at Hogansport when the south span collapsed. Eighty two reported for work. thirty eight were accounted for. Eighteen rescued died, nine more feared dead as crews searched the river and hospital, many victims from Pennsylvania and Indian bands.

Miles Advance Transport Chester Brings Puerto Rico Troops
The United States transport Chester arrived from Ponce Porto Rico with about 60 officers and civilians and 1,150 men. Brigadier Generals Schwan and Hains, plus Col. Case, were among the aboard. One death occurred, Captain M. H. Smith of the Fourth Pennsylvania, aged 38, due to malaria. Six in the ship’s hospital, five with typhoid fever. After quarantine the transport proceeded to Jersey City. Philadelphia reports a special train from the University of Pennsylvania Hospital to meet City of Chester and notes hospital capacity to care for Pennsylvania and out of state soldiers.

The US transport Seneca with Rear Admiral Schley and Brigadier General Gordon entered San Juan harbor after a 13 gun salute from the protected cruiser New Orleans.
