The Polar Bears clinched the NCAA Division I district title in a dramatic game that stretched to eight innings before securing the win. Pitching and timely hitting carried the team as they overcame early deficits to take the championship on B1 sports.
Stark County Board of Elections denied spots for Scott D Polen and Estlin Hiller on the November ballot in Canton wards 1 and 5. Polen, seeking nonpartisan Canton Ward 1 council against Gregory Hawk, had 21 valid of 40 signatures. 25 needed. Hiller, legal name Hiller Davidson, sought Canton Ward 5 seat against Robert Fisher Jr. No further candidates filed.
Lake High Junior Cameron Logar and Alliance High sophomore Julia Schwartz join the ranks of perfect ACT scorers. Logar improved from a 28 as a seventh grader to a 34 as a sophomore with support from Lake teachers and parents. Schwartz raised her score from 33 to 36 after retaking the exam, expressing disbelief at her achievement.
North West High junior Heidi Smith, entering her senior year, achieved a perfect 36 on the ACT after three attempts. She previously scored 28 as an eighth-grader and 32 as a sophomore, joining fewer than 1 percent of test takers to reach a perfect result.
AP NORC poll shows about half of Americans view age discrimination at work with a split by age. Sixty percent of 60 plus and 43 percent of under 45 say older workers face discrimination. Federal law bars age bias, yet many older adults still feel at a disadvantage in hiring.
