Reinoehl Arrested After Assault on Burd in East Main Street
Coal driller Charles Reinoehl, 43, of Howells Avenue, is jailed without bail on an assault with intent to kill charge after striking real estate dealer Sylvester Burd with an iron pulley on East Main Street in front of Dr. Dimon's office. Burd suffered a two inch scalp wound and neck pain but Dr. Dimon deemed his condition serious yet likely to recover. Reinoehl claims self defense and says the dispute began over Burd's missing pocketbook containing $25. An eyewitness report from Mrs. W. S. Decker supports Burd's fall, while Reinoehl describes his arrest as mishandled but circulated by police. The feud dates six weeks, with prior tensions over the pocketbook and Burd's accusations. The mayor ordered Reinoehl held for further developments in Burd's condition.
