Vatican opens debate on married priests in Amazon
The Vatican formally opened debate on ordaining married men as priests in the Amazon, where priest shortages leave Catholics without Mass for long periods. The working document for an October synod calls studying older, married, indigenous candidates while affirming celibacy as a gift. It also addresses women’s roles and urges a more indigenous church presence amid deforestation and Pentecostal competition.

Salvation without a savior and the religion of education
The piece argues that seeking salvation without God leads to a powerless religion and utopian schemes based on education or secular ideals. It contrasts religious disbelief with calls for justice without a judge and a heavenless utopia, urging that true deliverance requires an upper-case God as creator and redeemer.
