McKinley Generals Surrounded by Supporters in Canton Library

Major McKinley spent a calm day in his Canton library as friends and reporters filled the rooms. Amid cheers for his nomination, he quietly accepted the news, kissed his wife and mother, and addressed crowds gathered outside, while officials and citizens prepared for a victory parade and speeches in Rhinecliffe, New York and beyond.

Fire nearly destroys Harrison shops. insurance covers loss

At 2 am a blaze from box 21 engulfed the engine house of W. R. Harrison & Company's shops. Central and Richville avenue fire brigades fought flames, saving the factory proper though the engine house burned. Damage not less than $2,000, insured, rebuilding to begin at once.

Turkish troops annihilated in revolt reports from Damascus

Advices from Damascus say Drneses have revolted and annihilated four companies of Turkish troops and captured several guns. A separate dispatch from Bulawayo reports a grave native uprising in Matabeleland with bodies of thirty to forty whites found.

Wind and Rains Again Kill Several in Republican City

A violent wind storm last night demolished the residence of E P Duncan in the country. Mrs Duncan and three children were fatally hurt. In Mason City Iowa four inches of rain fell with hail and wind causing damage to corn. Also notes on D C Floating Palaces operating between Detroit Cleveland and Cleveland Port Bay Toledo with a travel promotion for water trips.

Massillon Hails McKinley Nomination in Canton Parade

Massillon citizens and workers flood Canton after the nomination of McKinley, with Harmonia and Military bands leading a sizable delegation. Professor Jones voices Massillon’s pride and support, pledging strong backing for McKinley and urging unity across party lines. Major McKinley thanks Massillon workers and recalls persistent local support as crowds mingle and celebrate.

Pickpockets Plentiful On Major McKinley's Lawn

Canton police detained two suspects after a crowd on the square sparked a sweep for pickpockets. Twenty seven empty pocketbooks were found on Major McKinley’s lawn the morning after. Ex congressman M L Smyser reports losses of about 3000 dollars. Multiple citizens report smaller wallet losses as money and notes vanished from pockets. A Chicago detective identified some suspects and the crowd was drawn to the incident during the McKinley campaign period.

Court House and County Involved in Legal Trouble

In Cixrox on June 20 Winfield Prince sues W A Conway for 2000 claiming damages from a threatening publication tactic by G A Parker & Sons Co. and seeks a receiver for promissory notes. Margaret Haas sues W S Putman for 1200 and Katharine Cobble for 750. Also a Canton marriage license for Charles Thorley Christina Bergert. Probate filings include Casper Brankel will Tuscarawas and Elizabeth Clemens will Minerva. Court House notes include appeals by Lued Kurtz against Newsletter Printing and a $200 judgment against J D Frank surety. Allen Goeler seeks divorce from Nancy Goeler alleging neglect and cruelty. Mr Wyckoff Is Dead.

McKinley Reception Sparks Canton Homecoming
