Albany June 14 The New York Court of Appeals refused a stay of execution for Albert T. Patrick in the William M. Rice murder case. The court will adjourn Friday until October and set a date for execution before then. Patrick's counsel plans a motion for reargument when the court reconvenes.
Martial law is declared at Brest-Litovsk after Jews defend stores during clashes with rioters backed by reservists. General Ostrogradski arrives from St. Petersburg to restore order as Christians join in attacks. A street of Jewish shops is wrecked and casualties mount on both sides.
The Navy Department awarded 19 contracts for guns and mounts for the New Hampshire North Carolina and Montana. Bethlehem Steel four 12 inch guns at 51644 each and eight 8 inch mounts at 19990 each. Midvale Steel 32 6 inch guns at 12860 each 12 7 inch guns at 14355 each eight 8 inch guns at 17142 each and 83 6 inch mounts at 7588 each. Mounts come with sights and guns with spare parts and accessories.
The defense in the William G. Crawford case rested unexpectedly as prosecutors prepared rebuttal. Crawford, Machen, and Lorenz are charged with conspiring to defraud the government by supplying mail sacks for the post office department under a contract. District Attorney Beach indicated only one rebuttal witness would be used as the court adjourned until today.
Montreal June 14 Judge Hall grants Gaynor and Green permission to appeal to the supreme court opposing Justice Davidson on extradi tion commissioner decision. This postpones the case by six months delaying action and proceedings.
James Stack of 115 Trumbull Street enraged by domestic strife and unemployment shoots his wife, infant daughter, and mother-in-law in Cleveland. The wife is likely to die, the infant may lose an arm, Stack wounds himself but survives as officers capture him. Hospital reports say the two women are gravely injured.
Marion Ohio June 14 Mrs Mary P McMillan widow near Decliff arrested by Deputy United States Marshal Pear Sells of Toledo charged with obtaining government pension funds. Three counts allege false affidavit perjury and swearing about her husband the late Captain I S McMillan of Co B Seventh Indiana Volunteer. McMillan says she has no memory and claims her husband died by his own hand. Pension examiners suspect others involved.
Albion Illinois June 14 three killed and 29 injured when an eastbound Southern railway cotton special wrecks on a trestle near Golden Gate. The train, carrying Confederate veterans to Louisville, overturned after a spread rail at speed 50 mph. Passenger J J Ahles from Greenway Arkansas is named among the dead. Relief delayed by difficult terrain.
The official reception for American Ambassador Conger will be held tomorrow at noon in Mexico City.

Lima Ohio man William Pitter, 28, formerly of Bucyrus, killed himself by hanging over a lost tank debt before his wedding to Buckeye sweetheart Ana. He had traveled west, saved money, sent a draft home, and spent his fortune after losing the funds on the street. His body was found in a barn near his hotel. parents reside at 233 North Main Street.
In Allegheny Pennsylvania on June 14 a neighbor's pet monkey mauled a nine month old girl on Chartiers street. The baby's face was severely lacerated requiring 15 stitches. Doctors fear loss of sight may be permanent.
Washington report says three men Alexander Chisholm and Newt and Dennis Bunch brothers drowned near Analostan Island when a fishing boat capsized during a fishing outing on the Potomac. A boy found the line and pulled Chisholm’s body to the surface. Dennis Bunch was recovered later by harbor police, Newt Bunch remains missing.
Minneaplis reports Colonel Wit sath Dun of Red Wing Maun led the famous charge of the First Minnesota at Gettysburg. Found dead in bed at the Alitgneseta Solvers' Hare, aged yar Birsi Minnesota. Commanded by Cowan Culvile, he was seven times wounded and survived the Civil War crisis with only a remnant. Forty-three of his men returned alive and unharmed.
The Catholic Order of Foresters state convention assembled in Plymouth Ohio on June 11 with Mayor Milstead welcoming delegates. Reverend Father Mettuick J Walter and James J Casey of Cincinnati responded. G A Heilker of Cincinnati attended as the representative from the international. Sandusky is pushing for the 1906 convention.
Jane Washington reports that Charles J. Bonaparte will become secretary of the navy on July 1 after a general talk with Secretary Morton. Bonaparte said he would assume the duties of the position starting July 1 following their conversation at the department.
Jean ut tel, secretary of the local labor exchange, received a long imprisonment sentence for delivering a speech that praised the May 31 bombing at the opera during King Alfonso's visit. In a separate incident, jockey Hector was killed and jockey Morris injured in a steeplechase crash at the American Jockey Club track on Welesley and Dr Clark.
