Tragic Death Of John Bantz On Pennsylvania Tracks
Twelve year old John Bantz was killed near the West Tremont Street bridge on the Pennsylvania railroad when a eastbound mail train struck him after a passing freight train obscured his view. The accident occurred at 12:35 PM as he attempted to escape toward home after a baseball game. the skull was crushed by the impact. The body was later taken to the Pennsylvania station and his parents notified.

James O Neal was taken to Columbus where boarding house keeper Mrs Tufts affirmed the man calling himself Frank Conrad also used the name Frank Castor. Columbus suspects say the Canton detainee is Jack Reid also known as Mike Murray and that the killer of a Columbus officer was Reid. Frank Castor now claims his partner fired the fatal shot.
