Cardinal Ledochowski Dead in Prussian Prison
Rome reports the death of Cardinal Mikislas Ledochowski prefect of the sacred congregation of the propaganda died yesterday in Prussian custody. Born October 29 1222 in Gork to a Polish noble family he studied with the Lazarists in Warsaw and in Vienna before Rome. He served in Madrid Lisbon Rio de Janeiro and Santiago de Chili and became archbishop of Thebes in 1861 later leading Guesen and Posen and primate of Poland. His imprisonment began in 1874 due to resistance to Prussian church laws. released in 1876 he returned to Rome and assumed his title. The pope called him a noble fighter for the church and religion and prayed for his soul.

Pittsburg July 23 The Rev A W Casselman field secretary of the foreign mission band of the Reformed church left yesterday afternoon for an extended tour of investigation in Japan and China He will visit interior China never before seen by white men select sites for mission stations plan to photograph inland villages to aid the mission board in deciding where to build sites He will inspect current stations and choose locations for new ones.
