Storm Damages Reported in Canal Fulton and North Lawrence
A severe thunderstorm Thursday night caused heavy rainfall and damage in Canal Fulton with a porch wrecked and a minor lightning shock at Charles Labb’s East High avenue residence. Bridge to Span Canal and Rail Across Marshy Ground
The county commissioners awarded a 2000 dollar contract to Massillon Bridge Company for a 642 foot footbridge from the canal east bank to the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway. It will be six feet wide with one iron span over the canal and two over the river, mainly wooden, stretching 430 feet in wood and the rest iron. Construction starts immediately to serve Massillon workers and southern residents.

Massillon Women Aid War Emergency Lightens War Relief
Within a week Mrs. Frank Shallenberger and Miss Florence Landon mobilized about a dozen Massillon women for the War Emergency Relief Board Auxiliary No. 40. They raised roughly 15 dollars, buying 186 yards of material to make 25 night shirts 14 pajamas 15 flannel bands and one pair of pillow cases. The items were sent to Cleveland for forwarding to Washington and then to hospitals, with shipments directed to the army areas most in need. The effort reflects remarkable outputs from a small group and their aim remains to serve where most needed.

The Bell Telephone Company plans to establish an exchange at Canal Fulton with many subscribers already signed and others eager to join. The line will connect to the metallic circuit with toll stations at Clinton and Manchester and other villages not yet wired to Massillon.
