Four council members will be sworn in before Monday’s work session as Massillon moves toward a new governance direction. Republicans will hold a slim 5-4 majority in 2020 with road resurfacing, mall lease talks, and downtown challenges on the agenda. Council members elect cite tax and business concerns as priorities for the new year.
Joel C. Fichter was sworn in Friday afternoon as Massillon Municipal Court's newest judge. The ceremony drew elected officials judges attorneys family and friends. Fichter fills the vacancy from Judge C Roland Centrone retirement after serving 12 years as a magistrate.
In Akron Canton the high reached 63 degrees Thursday, near Stark County records that date to 1887, with 65 degrees set in 2010. Friday stays warm with near 60 degree readings as residents enjoy outdoor ice rink activity downtown in Canton.
The U S Census Bureau plans to hire about 500000 temporary workers nationwide for the 2020 decennial census. Census Day is April 1 2020. Positions include Census takers to interview residents, field supervisors, recruiting assistants, clerks and staff to update address lists.
