Advertises a drastic dry goods sale across 56 departments with sharply reduced prices to clear stock. Urges prompt action and notes staple goods not reduced while promising discounts on suits shirts waists sacks parasols and wash goods with samples at 25 cents and yard reductions 5 to 20 cents.
June and July brought buyers to foreign markets and selections are arriving. Heads of families with daughters at various institutions may note the new goods just in, ideal for outfitting the school girl including Polka Dot Silks.
Washington reports cabinet discussions on a civil administration framework for Cuba, Porto Rico, and parts of the Philippines. In New York, four more steamship loads of Spanish troops are to sail from Santiago de Cuba this week, with all soldiers expected to depart by September.
Private Laduke of Company I, Second Wisconsin Volunteers, is sentenced by court martial to life imprisonment for killing Private Stutford of the Thirteenth Infantry in a Porto Rico wine shop quarrel. He awaits transportation under guard at Leavenworth. The Adjutant General confirms the verdict from Ponce on August 15.

In Santiago de Cuba the Second Volunteer Regiment of immunes was ordered to camp outside the city to make way for new arrivals.
Seven thousand prisoners reported as fighting lines clash in Manila city siege. Spain refuses Blanco resignation while Agusti departs Manila after the city’s surrender. Insurgents barred from entering Manila in immediate post surrender mood.
Manila fell to American land and naval forces after a combined assault. About 7,000 prisoners were captured as the Spanish defenses at Malate were silenced, with the city’s surrender occurring around 5 a.m. The attack featured ten thousand to twenty thousand allied troops and heavy naval gunfire from the Olympia and other ships.
Mapkip Augusti reportedly departed Manila following the surrender. The government has his report but will not publish it yet. He allegedly refused to surrender on August 7 as the events unfolded.
