The Massillon Retail Grocer’s Association fifth annual picnic drew 1,276 attendees from Chippewa Lake on Wednesday evening. Winners announced for prizes including portraits, flour, cigars, and various goods. Events included fat men’s race, clerks vs drivers, sack race, ladies wheelbarrow, tug of war, and a grand prize drawing amid reports of smooth transport and lively crowd.

Massillon Society Marks Seventh Anniversary Banquet
Massillon Branch 38 of the Catholic Mutual Benefit Association celebrated its seventh anniversary with a banquet at St Mary's hall attended by about 300 members and Ladies' Association. L L Volkmer presided, speeches followed, and bouquets were exchanged. Miss Kittie Dornhecker and Miss Lizzie Sibila performed piano solos. Canton guests returned by 10:30 car. gratitude expressed to the ladies for their efforts. Also contains a soldier’s July 31 letter from Cuba describing travel to Siboney, front-line movement, and Massillon volunteers serving in the First Illinois, Second and Ninth Massachusetts, District of Columbia, Thirty-third and Thirty-fourth Michigan, Seventy-first New York, and Eighth Ohio regiments.
