Massillon bank named Ion National Bank appoints J H Hunt as Coleman president in historic notices. The brief item records leadership change and institutional reference in Massillon.

It touts One Dollar and Swell Star waists from 1.50 to 3.00 and promises expert selection advice to save money. Also highlights gingham options 15 to 64 cents and notes an upcoming new catalogue.
The Mangrove captures the Spanish auxiliary cruiser Panama off Havana after a tense chase. The Panama carries 72 crew plus 20 passengers and a cargo of corn, including three women and one Frenchman. Indiana shares prize money. the fleet reports no casualties and ongoing blockade.
Dispatches report General Miles and Cuban representatives in conference outlining plans for arming and provisioning the insurgent army to move on Havana with U S fleet support. Other items note Spanish naval activity near New York and Manila preparations by Commodore Dewey for Manila Bay action.

One hundred fifty members of the Michigan naval militia lined the deck of the United States cruiser Yantic at Detroit awaiting departure for Norfolk when orders from the navy department delayed the start. It is believed the department may order out the entire Michigan reserves.
By Associated Press dispatches state that the cruiser New York sailed within about a mile and a half of the Cuban coast. Large quantities of smoke were observed in the interior, signaling that the logar gents are burning the cane fields.
Governor Black telegraphs the secretary of war that New York's full quota is ready at any hour, signaling a large percentage of the state militia has enlisted. The message comes from Albany on April 27 as the Associated Press reports.
Reports from Havana April 27 state the Montserrat, earlier claimed captured by the United States, has arrived at Cienfuegos. No information is provided on the port blockade.
