Deserter Babcock Sentenced After Alimony Plot
James August Babcock formerly of this city and now in Arpin faced a desertion charge and then a harsher count leading to a one year sentence at Waupun. He admitted to living with another woman and fathering three children, and attempted a bogus alimony deal to dismiss the case. The tale includes a switch to a Grand Rapids jail and a noted real estate mortgage plan. The report also covers a city plat map project and a fraternal lodge insurance issue in Marshfield with officers named.
