Destructive Fire Destroys Eland Business District
A Monday night blaze in Eland Junction caused about 30000 dollars in losses, gutting the Hotel Carroll run by Mike Hoolihan, a barber shop, several small business buildings, and the Frank C. Fuller store and post office. The fire began with an explosion in the kitchen of the hotel and was largely insured. Frank C. Fuller, the main loser, is a former Marshfield resident who started in retail in C. S. Vedder’s store before moving to Fland.

Local literary society meets as gym floor marked for basketball

The gym floor has been newly marked for basketball and Miss Brown attends school on crutches due to a sprained ankle. Examinations span six weeks with reports due next week. In last Wednesday's game the Never-sweats defeated the Pirates 22 to 18. Prof. Otto will oversee the Red Cross Anti Tuberculosis Christmas Seal sale, with fifty thousand seals received Monday. Basketball tournament among four classes is set for about two weeks, with girls’ practice starting next Friday under Miss Bergh. A girls’ gym class under Miss Dunn begins Monday, three active days and one lecture day weekly. Reed's studio offers portrait work and a souvenir calendar with orders through age 1. Mechler's announces jewelry and glass items. A city hall concert and recital featuring Miss Louise Rowlands and the Fortnightly Musical club drew a good crowd. Rowlands will return from Racine in January.

Emil Miller Breaks Arm After Fall Near Veneer Plant
Emil Miller of 715 Adler Street sustained a serious fall on the leg sidewalks last Monday morning while en route to the Veneer factory. He broke his left arm in three places two fractures above the elbow and one below, and will be laid up for several weeks. The accident occurred at 7 10 p m.
