Richfield farmer buys land to build river resort plan
John Jenkins, Richfield farmer and horse dealer, has purchased twenty acres along the Yellow river two miles south of his home through Willett estate agent George H. Welton. He plans a dam to raise water and create a 6 to 10 foot head, backing water to a bridge near William Burhopp’s place, enabling motorboats and creating lakes from sloughs. He aims to pave a river road for auto travel, connect to the Pittsville road, and develop a summer resort and river resources, hoping granite and water power attract capital.
