High School Basketball Opens With Big Win Over Stevens Point Normal

The local high school beat Stevens Point normal 35 to 15 in a season opener. Patterson scored 18 points, Witt 9, Warfield 5. normals led by Roberts and Bischoff. Coach C. W. Otto praised as varsity shows fast team play and hopes for state tournament contention.

Ray Teaman Improves After University Lab Explosion

Ray Teaman, injured in a chemical explosion at the state university last Tuesday, is improving in Milwaukee hospital. Doctors report his eyesight will remain intact and he can resume studies soon. Brother Clyde Teaman helped arrange his care and transport.

Navy Appointment Prospects From District Examinations

Earl Leahy of this city, son of veteran Michael Leahy, heads for Annapolis as an alternate this month and will take the navy exam. Earlier, Morse ordered a competitive test supervised by Supt Showers of Stevens Point. Beckwith Sanborn led by five points over the Marshfield contestant. If Sanborn passes the physicals, he earns a place at the preparatory school. if not, Leahy may receive the appointment now, or next year.

Sheboygan Merchants Ban Ads To Save Costs

A merchants association in Sheboygan Wisconsin voted to cut ad placements in programs race cards theater curtains and other non profitable media. They will focus advertising in newspapers locally to save money and time.

Special Dairy Institute Planned for Marshfield in March

The Marshfield Guernsey Breeders Association plans a two day special dairy institute on March 12 and 13 1908 for Marshfield and nearby farmers. Local business leaders and farmers pledge support with hopes of top speakers from state and possibly outside. Organizers cite the event as a major practical boost to the dairy industry and may include feeding stuffs exhibits such as silage clover alfalfa distillers grains beet pulp.

Death of Rev J B Mitzler in Chippewa Falls

The sad intelligence came Sunday of the death of Rev Father J B Mitzler a prominent Catholic priest of the diocese. He gave a strong German address at the funeral of Father Eisen. The funeral will be held today at Chippewa Falls and will be attended by many priests from the area.

J C Davis Chosen for County Supervisor of Assessments

J C Davis, pioneer resident of Richfield and longtime Wood County figure, elected supervisor of assessments by 22 votes to 16 for P McCamley and 4 for BE S Ren ne. Described as an expert accountant with extensive tax roll and public affairs experience, he pledges equal, fair, impartial service to the entire county.

Unique Family Theatre Opens in Marshfield at Wagner Building

The Unique Family Theatre Co. leases 125 Central avenue for one year with option, remodeling the Wagner building for electrical effects. The Marshfield venue joins a chain with theatres in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Stillwater, Duluth and other cities. Grand opening Monday December 2 with daily vaudeville, high grade moving pictures and singing by the Graham Ladies Orchestra. Shows run 2 PM and 7:30 and 9:00 PM daily. Admission is 10 cents for all performances.

Engineer Tenpenny Burned In Rail Accident Near Amherst

Engineer Tenpenny of extra street number 165 suffered severe burns after a firebox gate detached. He crawled into the engine ash pan to adjust it while a jumper sleeve caught fire and a hot clinker burned the back of his head neck and ear. He continued to Stevens Point to await a repair.

Miss Lacena Dickhoff daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Dickhoff of this city married William Schleichert of Chicago at St Johns Catholic church on Tuesday at 9 AM Father Volta officiated. Attended by Miss Margaret Dickhoff and George Dickhoff. A reception followed at the Dickhoff home. The couple will honeymoon in Chicago and were joined by relatives from Hilbert and Chicago.
