The basswood timber area in Wisconsin supports strong demand as the plant, run by Hafer and Kalsched and staff, employs about sixty. The Presbyterian Poynette Academy, an aging boarding school with seventy pupils and five instructors, may relocate next year to Marshfield seeking better railway access and a larger catchment. Trustees consider donating land and raising 45000 dollars for a new main hall, dormitories, and facilities, with local canvassing planned after a Tuesday Elks Club meeting yielded no decisive decision.
