Upham Manufacturing Company Built Marshfield Rise
The Upham Manufacturing Company shaped Marshfield’s growth over 28 years from a small sawmill started by W. U. Upham in 1878. The firm expanded to a furniture factory, veneer works, and flouring mill, surviving the 1887 fire and rebuilding to become a major regional employer with activities in sawmilling plans, furniture, lumber retail, and shipping nationwide. Current leadership includes W. H. Upham as president and C. M. Upham as vice president, with extensive staff across divisions and long-serving foremen and clerical personnel maintaining operations.
