Oshkosh theatergoers charmed by transparent dancing

Ortillo Preetorius known as Tillie Muttenbach, a Marshfield native, wowed Oshkosh Grand Opera House with interpretative dance under Elks auspices. The Northwestern praised modest, non sexual dances, noting program typos but strong artistry and varied costumes, comparing her to Duncan and St Denis.

Drowning of Robert Young at Anacortes Wash

Robert Young aged 17 drowned while crossing from an island home to the mainland at Anacortes Washington. The death occurred on the 18th, exactly sixteen years after his father Thomas Young died in Marshfield. The body was recovered the next day twenty rods from shore. Young was born in Marshfield and grew up there.

Marshfield Drops Second Season Game At Antigo

The Marshfield city team lost 8 to 6 in Antigo in the second regular game of the season. Box score shows Marshfield errors and hits, but observers say with more practice they can challenge Antigo again. A double header is planned next Sunday at the fairgrounds with Grand Rapids, Marshfield Outlaws, and Bakerville. First pitch at 2:30, admission a quarter.

Excellent Play Promised at New Adler for Billys Bungalow

A local cast of twenty performs the comic home talent play Billys Bungalow at Marshfield New Adler opera house Thursday evening. The amateur troupe aims to deliver the best city production yet with an able ten girl chorus High school orchestra and clever specialties. The cast features Billy the modern newlywed and Peggy his angelic wife among others.

Sudden Death of Well Known Man B J Kelly

The community was shocked Monday to learn of the sudden death of B J Kelly a well known resident. He rose at six o'clock and a spell of heart trouble proved fatal soon after his wife found him in his chair. Kelly born fifty two years ago in Hudson Wisconsin lived in Sac county Iowa and later became a traveling salesman. He formed Marshfield Bottling Works with H R Waggoner in 1901 and ran it until this year when he sold to J H McGrells due to ill health. Surviving are his widow Elizabeth and four children Alma Vernon Carroll Howard, plus several brothers and sisters. Funeral from his residence to the Presbyterian church this afternoon at two with Rev F H Ambrose officiating and burial at Hillside cemetery.

Stores to Close Saturday on Decoration Day Noon

Marshfield stores will close Saturday Decoration Day at 12 noon. Merchants urge shoppers to buy Friday or Saturday morning. The Times office will also be closed on Saturday. The holiday is described as the most beautiful observance, inviting the country to lay work aside and honor heroes.

Postmaster Change Hinted For Marshfield Next Monday

A. G. Pankow and Postmaster E. A. Upham plan for a Marshfield postmaster change next Monday. Pankow has filed an $8,000 bond with Postmaster General Burleson for government property custody. Father Davis favors staying. St Alban’s parish house project interests him, making a move now undesirable.

Land deal dispute prompts protest over misrepresented verdict

George Werner of Homeseekers' Land bureau visits The Times after alleging a Fond du Lac to Oshkosh Northwestern dispatch misrepresented him. He says the jury verdict in the Eckert v Werner case reversing a land fraud claim should stand, while plaintiffs claim the traded Taylor county land was undervalued and Werner knew it. The Times consulted Fond du Lac news agency which reaffirmed the jury’s findings of fraud and misrepresentation.

Reverend Graeme Davis Offered Senior Post in Grand Rapids

The Rev Graeme Davis vicar of St Alphan’s Episcopal Church in this city received an offer from the Episcopal parish in Grand Rapids to lead their church at a substantially higher salary. Davis plans to remain in his current post here.

Memorial Day Plans for Marshfield Observance

Plans are complete for Meridriz] Day in Marshfield next Saturday. The parade forms at 1 30 p m opposite Washington school and proceeds to Hillside cemetery with the band Krieger Verein Boy Scouts flower girls veterans lodges and fire department. Captain Kendall of Plover will speak at the cemetery. If rain the exercises move to the armory.

Wisconsin Short Sh circuit to open at Marshfield stakes listed

Secretary R R Williams announces the Wisconsin Short Ship Circuit opens in Marshfield from August 24 to 28 with Wausau September 1 to 4 and Merrill September 8. Stevens Point and Antigo skip this year due to date conflicts. Stakes include 2:14 pacing $1,000, 2:24 pacing $1,000, trotting $1,000, 7 pace $300, 2:20 trot $200, and 2:35 trot or pace $300. Entries for the three $1,000 stakes close July 1 with a 5 percent entry fee and twelve nominators.

Wisconsin United Travelers Open Convention at Marshfield

The sixteenth annual Wisconsin grand council United Travelers of America begins in Marshfield on June 4. Two free ball games are scheduled at the fair grounds with U T members in good standing, drawing visitors from Milwaukee Eau Claire Appleton La Crosse Green Bay Oshkosh and more.
