Smileage Books To Be Sold In Marshfield Soon

Marshfield will soon sell Smileage books as a fund to support National Guard and Army Camp Activities. Judge Conway appoints B. Edwards to handle sales for Marshfield and nearby areas with books available at drug stores banks and general stores. The plan includes Boy Scouts canvassing neighborhoods to sell to every home and provide wholesome amusement for drafted soldiers.

Registration Day To Honor Dead Heroes On Memorial Day

Registration day is set for men who have turned 21 since June 5 1917 with a nationwide call. Towns and villages list registration sites and local officials outline parade plans for Memorial Day activities at Washington School lineup at 2 PM with 1 30 PM assembly.

Marshfield Teens Excel At Wausau Declamatory Contest

In Wausau last Thursday, Marshfield High sent Donald Bulmer who earned third place in oratory, with Grant Verhulst also placing. Karleanne Seharman and Corinne Kline represented Marshfield in the declamation. The Wausau Record-Herald praised Bulmer as a splendid speaker and a strong rival to veterans. Winners advance to the state elimination meet.

Selects to Go Tuesday May 28 to Camp Grant

The next group of drafted men will depart Grand Rapids Tuesday morning May 28 for Camp Grant Rockford Illinois. A luncheon at the Elks Club approved sending them off locally with transport arranged. Officials shifted the original departure from Saturday to Tuesday and a Chamber of Commerce luncheon will host the local drafted men and their escorts.

Kavorik Concert Planned At Adler Theatre Next Tuesday

Miss Hedviga Kavorik of Chicago will headline a concert at the Adler theater next Tuesday evening. She has appeared as a soloist with grand orchestras three times in the past year, most recently at the Studebaker theater in Chicago.

Commencement Week Plans At Marshfield High

Marshfield High School prepares a busy finals week for 33 seniors. Invitations go out this week for a schedule spanning June 9 to 14 including baccalaureate by Rev. Jordan and Rev. Ambrose, eighth grade exercises at Adler theater, the class play A Strenuous Life, the high school commencement, the senior ball at Armory A., and diploma ceremonies with E Finney presenting diplomas.

Sale Nets Over $13,000 at Fair Grounds Friday

The seventh semi annual Central Wisconsin Breeders association cattle sale at the fair grounds drew buyers from across the state. Total sales reached $12,060 with 43 Guernseys selling for $6,800 and 54 Holsteins bringing $6,260. Highest price paid was $400 for a three year old Guernsey cow from C E Blodgett, purchased by J R Love & Son of Wausau. Two calves donated to the local Red Cross raised about $85. Auctioneers were Col. Bailey, Col. Krause, and Col. Heintz. participants included C E Blodgett and several area consigners.

Memorial Services at Methodist Church Held Next Sunday

Memorial services will be conducted at the Methodist church at eleven o'clock with Rev. F. Jordan officiating. The G A R Spanish American War Veterans and members of Company I participate. The line of march forms at the armory before services and Home Guards wear new uniforms. Public invited.
