Marshfield Red Cross drive to raise 7500 this week

Marshfield and its Chamber of Commerce press for routing changes to a federal highway to pass through the city, arguing the longer route boosts tourism and state institutions. Beginning Monday workers stripped interior decorations of the building adjacent to Marshfield State Bank and began tearing it down to clear space for new bank quarters. It is expected the bank will move from its old quarters to the Kohl building, formerly the Large Newsstand, by Saturday or Monday.

Marshfield will host a two act four scene stage presentation titled America Awake on May 21 and 22 at the Ad Jer thoster. The Evans Producing company backs the show with elaborate scenery and costumes while Knights of Columbus support aids a war fund. The cast features Lt. Clark Florence Spalding Fred Reeths Mercedes Helgeson Le Croix Paul Spalding Jim Delmore and others in a patriotic drama blending music and dance with vigorous tableaux. Tickets go on sale Monday morning at Liese's.

Young Couple Married in Early Morning Ceremony

Hubert J. Weber wed Miss Fleas of Sealy in a six o'clock ceremony at Sacred Heart Church performed by Rev. A J Steh iling. Attendants Mr and Mrs Albert Steger joined the couple for a brief honeymoon and auto trip to Worthington Minnesota before returning to the city. Weber will leave May 25 for Camp Grant with the draft quota. The newlyweds and families are well known in the community and the Times extends best wishes.

Lamson Named New Secretary of Marsh Chamber

The Marsh chamber announces a contract with F B Lamson of Bemidji Minnesota to serve as secretary. Lamson will assume duties on or about June 1 as the secretary position is now settled by a written agreement.

Confirmation Day Draws Massive Crowds at Two Parishes

On Sunday Bishop James Suiho of La Crosse presided at Sacred Heart and St. John's Catholic churches. He confirmed 612 at Sacred Heart at 2:00 p.m. and about 224 at St. John's around 9:20 a.m. Large processions preceded the rites and hundreds attended. About fifty decorated cars escorted the bishop between churches, and Sacred Heart’s afternoon turnout exceeded capacity. Clergy from multiple towns joined the ceremony, marking a historic, well attended event.

Marshfield Wins Season Opener in Ten Innings Over Grand Rapids

Marshfield edged Grand Rapids 3 to 2 in ten innings in the season opener at the Rapids. Johnson pitched well for Marshfield, holding Grand Rapids to seven hits. In the tenth, a bases on balls, stolen base, and infield hit produced the decisive run. Clintonville is set to visit Sunday at three with Johnson again on the mound. Manager Ememrich aims to field a stronger lineup as the season progresses.

Mrs Ben Merkel Dies at 31 in Weigelsdorf District

Mrs. Ben Merkel aged 31 died at the local hospital Sunday evening. A Catholic church funeral will be held this morning at ten from St. John's Church in Weigelsdorf district.
