Commencement Events at Local High School This Week

Preparations for commencement are underway as fifteen seniors rehearse orations for the class play What Happened to Jones staged June 15. The graduating exercises follow, with the senior ball June 16, all at the opera house and assembly room.

Swedish comedian Hen Hendricks to perform at Adleropera

Northland singer Hen Hendricks arrives at Adleropera house for a Saturday May 15 matinee and night engagement with a new company. He will sing six new songs, including Fair Land of Sweden and Scandinavia, while playing Ole in the play. Prices range from 15 to 75 cents, with seats at Sexton's.

Fire at Marshfield Bedding Co destroys warehouse

A fire in the Marshfield Bedding Co office and warehouse Friday night caused heavy damage to stock and wrecked the building. Firemen checked the blaze after three lines, origin in a back room remains unknown while investigators pursue clues. Also noted are preparations for the July 10 to 15 street fair and carnival with Cosmopolitan Carnival Co. funding proceeds to the state fair association.

Death of Avg. Furstenberg

August Furstenberg died suddenly from an apoplectic attack last Sunday and passed away before noon. Funeral from his South Vine Street home was held Wednesday with Rev. J. A. Willey officiating. Survived by his wife and five children Mabel Evaline David Edward and Elmer his early town building projects and hard work earned him wide respect.

Rose Brothers to Erect Two Story Store Addition

Rose Brothers will immediately carry out season plans to build a two story rear addition 45 by 55 feet with a full length basement at Central avenue and Second street. When finished the store will be 55 by 125 feet with first floor open room. A new steam heating plant, remodeled departments, elevated rear office, and elevator are planned. The second story will house offices except the south half of the new portion for storage. Construction is underway and to be rushed to completion.

Arson trial jury returns not guilty verdict

Clayton Fuller faced arson charges in Wau kesha with a largely local witness pool. The state relied solely on circumstantial evidence. The jury deliberated from 3:30 Wednesday and delivered a not guilty verdict at 4:50 Thursday, a result that drew general approval.

Honor for J. B. Borden as state superintendent

J B Borden of this city was named successor to C A Donnelly as superintendent of public instruction with Donnelly resigning to join Ginn & Co. Borden will finish his term here and assume duties around July 7. He has eight years as city schools head, led the high school to prominence, and is a Milton College and state university graduate ready for state service.

Death of a Pioneer Nelson Marsh Dies at 76 in Granton

Nelson Marsh, a founder figure of Granton and early Grantor settlement, died at his daughter’s home last Friday at age nearly 77. He lived in the community 48 years and was a leading local family head. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wright, and five sons J C Marsh, Spencer Marsh, Alya Marsh, Vet Marsh, and Lewis Marsh. Funeral held in Granton with hundreds of settlers in attendance.
