A James L. Gates Land Company excursion train of six Pullman sleepers arrived Sunday afternoon with 14 excursionists. The party was met at the depot by citizens and the Second Regiment band, escorted to hotels for dinner, and shown city sights by mayoral carriages and private rigs. The visitors praised Marshfield and surrounding area during their two hour stay.

A Marshfield party joined Oshkosh fishermen last Friday night. They chartered the steamer Mayflower and fished about thirty miles up the Wolf River, returning Monday with about two hundred fish. The group included John P. Hume, W. H. Lind, John L. Voelker, John F. Cole, F. R. Pollard, E. B. Finney, R. L. Krause and Oscar Lindemann. Ladies and children were invited.
The Central Wisconsin State Fair Association of Marshfield in Wood County Wisconsin is declared a county agricultural society under section 1460 of the statutes and eligible for state aid upon meeting section 143 requirements. The act, approved May 20 1898, takes effect upon passage.
