Marshfield Debaters Triumph in Hudson League Match
Marshfield high school team George Wable Oscar Lindow and Victor Wegner defeated Hudson high school in the North Central Wisconsin League debate held last Saturday. The Marshfield team argued the negative on the Initiative and Referendum question and won two to one on the judges panel Dr Norman Wilde Dr Raymond V Phelan and Prof D D Lescobier. Marshfield advances to the final debate with Appleton high school for the league championship. Stevens Point high would have met Appleton but forfeited. The Appleton debate is planned for April or May with the topic to be announced.

Soo Line Wreck Saturday Between Vesper and Grand Rapids
A mixed train leaving from here at 7 45 suffered a derailment halfway between Vesper and Grand Rapids. Several cars derailed and the track badly broken up. No injuries reported as passenger coaches cleared the front of the train. Logs and ties damaged. passengers walked to a caboose while a wrecking crew cleared the track and railway service resumed.

The afternoon and evening sessions featured a public program with addresses by Rev Coram and Rev Brown along with musical and literary numbers. A slight decline in membership was noted in the state of the order report. The next meeting date and place were left to the executive committee. Rev North could not attend due to delayed trains.

Giles J. Reily, a titled figure from Stevens Point, shot a man in the neck last week. the victim is expected to recover. A major scuffle occurred Tuesday evening on the south side with no serious injuries. On June 12, 1883, old Times files note the local Women’s Christian Temperance Union was organized at the Presbyterian church, a hopeful but cautious start for the venture.
