Local gathering in Yyhhe County features campaign clubs from multiple towns and organizations set to attend, reflecting broad political engagement. Attendees include community leaders and volunteers aiming to discuss issues and mobilize voters.
General Lew Wallace and Col Trish of Kalamazoo will speak at a Republican torchlight parade and fireworks event in Marshall. The procession from McKinley and Hobart club rooms to Kalamazoo avenue will draw about 2000 participants with torches, music, and a late meeting at the opera house.
Hutson B. Colman Republican candidate for state senator will address a meeting at Fredspin town house next Tuesday evening October 13 as part of his campaign swing through the area.

In circuit court Dr. F. M. Foote was acquitted of charges he assaulted Miss Erma White of Conins. After a 13 month ordeal the jury of twelve found him not guilty on the medical conduct claim, following heartfelt arguments by Porter and Powers and Judge Smith’s instructions. The crowd reacted with cheers as the verdict was read. The trial covered testimony and legal instruction on representations and sexual relations alleged to have occurred August 24, 1895 at Foote’s office, with the presumption of innocence upheld throughout.
The judge explains that reputation for honesty and integrity can be a complete defense to a criminal charge and urges jurors to weigh good character testimony carefully. He notes jurors must accept witnesses with credibility and that the defendant’s own testimony should be weighed like any other, with no presumption of guilt or innocence arising from his status.
The judge advises jurors to consider all opinions respectfully and discuss until they reach a verdict consistent with their or their oaths. If disagreement exists they should deliberate courteously. if not, the verdict will simply be guilty or not guilty based on the facts.
Citizens of Lev township urged to hear Frank J Doty at the Partello ball next Tuesday evening Oct 1. Doty, a farmer and stock and produce buyer, is described as understanding agricultural needs and wills. Those who miss his talk will miss an interesting address.
In Marshall township, Frank E. Doty will address farmers and residents tomorrow evening at the Cleveland school house. Doty has spoken in nearly every township, presenting himself as knowledgeable on farmer needs and soil work, with expectations of a large turnout.
