Patchin freed then rearrested on new charge

Arthur Patchin appeared before Justice Tillotson for alleged family mistreatment but was discharged due to unclear parentage. He was immediately rearrested on an assault and battery charge and sent to the work house for ninety days. The report notes regret he could not be convicted for the mistreatment.

Fire near church parsonage damages McKinstry barn

A close call occurred on Wednesday when a blaze started near Mrs. McKinstry's barn beside the Mra church area. Firemen faced delays due to unadjusted gear and lack of heater on the steamer, taking about 20 minutes to raise steam. The church sheds and parsonage were badly damaged, though the house goods were moved and the building saved from complete ruin. Fire damage estimated at $3,000 to $4,000. Rev Divine and wife had been away studying in Springport. Additional notes include council actions and local notices about street work and city finances.
