First Carload Of Irish Potatoes Shipped By Louisiana Farm Bureau
The first carload of Irish potatoes sold under the Louisiana Farm Bureau Irish Potato Growers exchange was shipped by the Houma association in Terrebonne Parish to a St. Louis firm. The sale completed by wire in about 20 minutes after the head office was notified. A fleet of 12 mechanical graders will accompany shipments, one per local association, with 60 000 potato bags taken on order. Regular shipments will continue until the crop is marketed, with about 200 carloads under contract and expectations of fancy prices due to spring crop shortages.

Prospects Brighten for Grain Growers
Prospects for the wheat market improve as smaller U.S. and Canadian yields, higher feed use of low grades, and distribution changes reduce exportable surplus. The August wheat crop forecast stands at 793 million bushels, with total available supply near 891 million. Corn prices remain firm amid small visible supply and strong feeding demand, while oats, rye, and barley show varied production and export expectations.
